As the year quickly closes in on us, we thought we’d take a step back and review the year in tech. We saw a lot of boundaries pushed this year. Not all have changed the world, but its great to see foundations being laid down by tech giants like Apple, Samsung and Amazon. Let’s take a look at what we’ve seen this year!
1. Apple
2018 has been a big year for Apple. We saw the launch of the HomePod, the new iPad, a new MacBook Pro, a new Apple Watch, new iPhones, new iPad Pro’s, a Mac mini and a MacBook Air. We’ve seen their biggest seller, the iPhone X with new improvements and updates making it one of the best smartphones of all time. In addition to this, we’ve also seen an increase in environmental awareness when it comes to buying smartphones. Instead of buying a new iPhone each year, we’re seeing consumers change their batteries and screens themselves rather than upgrading to the latest smartphone each year. Now, as we look to the new year, there is the expectation that new AirPods, MacBooks and iMacs will launch soon. We have also written a blog post about what is being predicted to expect from Apple in 2019.

2. Samsung
We love the competition between Samsung and Apple each year. Samsung released the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 this year. It’s been dubbed the best smartphone in the world as of right now along with its siblings, the Galaxy S9 and S9+. It features a big screen with top-tier specs including a huge battery, internal storage that starts at 129GB and their magical pen. Instead of going down the route of removing headset jacks and removing buttons like Apple has, they’ve spent their efforts in turning the Note 9’s pen into a remote control. This can be used for taking selfies, shuffling music and flipping through presentations.
We’ve also seen a huge breakthrough in AI this year from Samsung. We believe 2019 will be a big year for them as they become one of the first to adapt 5G alongside Google. There is also talk of them adding Google Assist into their TV’s alongside their AI Voice Assistant, ‘Bixby’.

3. Amazon
We’ve seen the launch of tech products from Amazon over the last few years and they certainly haven’t stopped innovating this year. They recently released a number of products that might just change the way we live. This includes an Echo for your car, a live recording device for your TV, a security camera for your home and even an Alexa Microwave.
In addition to this, we’ve seen their latest improvements on the Amazon Echo, connecting more users to Alexa. The Amazon Echo has evolved from being a speaker to being an intelligent device with brilliant voice control. Of course, as an exceptionally popular device at its low price point and easy setup, it has brought Alexa into millions of homes.
Amazon has revolutionised the way we live with their consumer tech and electronic products and we’re excited to see what’s to come in 2019. Here is a list of the new Amazon products launched in 2018!
It’s been an exciting year of tech. We’ve seen smartphones pushing boundaries and seen the biggest e-commerce company in the world re-invent products to change the way we live. Therefore, we’re expecting big things for 2019 and believe more products will be built with advanced AI Technology.
